Grow Home

Modular housing solutions focus on complete units, neglecting assemblies over time and the agency of home owners. Grow Home is a modular housing system that delivers a foundation and a frame to sites across the varied terrain of the Southwest. The home owner then fills in the frame with biomasonry. Trays of aggregate are filled with a bacterial solution, the bacteria culture forms calcium carbonate around the aggregate in order to produce bricks at ambient temperates.

The structure of the saguaro cactus [skeleton and pulp] inspired the construction method, along with the use of thermal mass assemblies in arid climates. The proposed housing solution is a collaboration between a fabricator [Grow Home], a supplier for the biomasonry [like BioMason] and the D.I.Y. Home Owner.
